The City of Vancouver is currently in the planning process to create 17 Low-density residential areas, “Villages”. These “Villages” will generally be within 400 metres from existing minor retail streets.
Within these areas, there will be gentle densification allowing:
- low-rise residential buildings (between 3-6 storeys)
- townhouses
- multiplex residential buildings.
A total of 25 “Villages” have been identified. The remaining eight will be approved through a separate planning process. Below are the 17 “Villages” that are part of the initial planning process scheduled to conclude in 2026. The 17 “Villages” will span a combined total of roughly 600 city blocks and are generally located around the intersections of:
- MacDonald St & West 16th Ave
- MacKenzie St & West King Edward Ave
- MacKenzie St & West 33rd Ave
- Mackenzie St & West 41st Ave
- Angus Dr & West 57th Ave
- Granville St & West 41st Ave
- Oak St & West 49th Ave
- Oak St & West 67th Ave
- Heather St & West 33rd Ave
- Fraser St & East 33rd Ave
- Knight St & East 33rd Ave
- Victoria Dr & East 61st Ave
- Commercial St & East 20th Ave
- Nanaimo St & East 1st Ave
- Nanaimo St & East Broadway
- Wales St & East 41st Ave
- Kerr St & East 54th Ave
